Does it interest the eye, excite the brain, move the mind to reflection, and involve the heart?~Julian Barnes (Photo location: Resorts World, Singapore)

Fundamental elements

The article by Diana Eftaiha lists 6 Elements of Design for Striking Photographs. These are line, shape, form, texture, pattern and color. These are design elements which are basic parts of composition. A careful combination of any of these will result in dramatic and visually stimulating images. Where do you find these elements? They are everywhere and all around us. In things, in nature, in people, in everyday objects you can find all these. You don’t have to deliberately search for them, but a trained eye of a photographer can spot these elements where normally others won’t notice them. It all boils down again to practice and perception. Where others see a basketball, you see a round shape, some textures and lines. Where others see balloons, you see colors, forms and patterns when they are lined up. You are more keenly aware and receptive, your visual sense is heightened, scanning for subjects, for possible images. And it is almost second nature, effortless for the photographer who knows what to look for. (Photo location: Sentosa, Singapore)
